Leptokarya Beach Leptokarya, Olympus Region

Leptokarya Beach in the Olympus Region

Leptokarya Beach is essentially just a part of a beach that stretches all the way from the summer resort of Plaka to the Platamon Castle. With a total length of nearly 11 km, this mega beach has more or less the same characteristics throughout its length. Beach has a pebbly-sandy shore, with pebbles in the shallow waters and sand a bit further into the sea.

Is the sea in Leptokarya dirty and full of jellyfish?

There is a common belief that the beaches in the Olympus region have dirty water with lots of seaweed and jellyfish. Most people avoid the resorts in this region because of this, but is it really true?

Although some visitors to Leptokarya may claim that the sea here is dirty, we have to say that this is completely untrue. Of course, sometimes the water may become slightly murky in the afternoon due to seaweed and sand, but this is temporary and certainly does not affect the cleanliness of the sea. It is also true that sea currents may "bring" some seaweed into the shallow areas, but these are all natural processes and not an indication of pollution.

As for the presence of jellyfish, locals and visitors alike have noted that in certain parts of the season, there can indeed be an influx of jellyfish. However, these are very short periods, and it cannot be said that there is a constant presence of jellyfish in Leptokarya.

At Leptokarya Beach, you can rent sunbeds and enjoy water sports

The main beach in Leptokarya is packed with beach amenities. From water sports to numerous cafes and restaurants offering sunbeds and sun umbrellas on the beach, you’ll have everything you need for a day by the sea. Therefore, it is no surprise that Leptokarya Beach is extremely popular in the summer and is considered one of the most popular beaches in the Olympus region, along with Paralia Katerini and Olympic Beach.

Visitor experiences at Leptokarya Beach: Least crowded before 10 AM and during lunch

A road with a walking path runs along the beach, and in this street, you’ll find many taverns and cafes. If you are arriving by car, avoid the town center, as parking can be difficult to find there. Instead, park to the left or right of the center. As with other "urban" beaches in the Olympus region, the least crowded times here are before 10 AM and during lunch. During the day, the beach is bustling with people, so if you are not a fan of lively atmospheres, come to the beach as early as possible or simply choose another part of the beach.

Leptokarya Beach is not for shallow water lovers

Unlike other nearby beaches, Leptokarya Beach doesn’t have such a long shallow area. So, if you don’t enjoy wading 300 meters into the sea before you can swim, this news will certainly delight you. Finally, here is a little treat: while swimming at Leptokarya Beach, you will be able to enjoy views of the peaks of the mythical Mount Olympus, which leaves a truly fantastic impression.
