Traditional Village Palaios Panteleimonas

Palaios Panteleimonas is a traditional village where time has stood still. Although it has been completely renovated, this village has retained its authentic charm. Like in every village, all activities take place in the center, at the main square by the church. Here are numerous restaurants offering local specialties, and the surrounding streets are adorned with shops selling traditional products from the area.

This magical place also has ‘’a secret connection’’ with Parthenonas in Sithonia, so if you have visited one of these places, you will certainly feel a sense of déjà vu in the other.

Archaeological Site of Dion

This entire region is rich in archaeological sites, so culture and history lovers can follow in the footsteps of Alexander the Great, who gathered his army in the city of Dion before heading to Persia.

Platamon Castle

In this region, there is also Platamon Castle, built by the Crusaders during the 13th century. Constructed between 1204 and 1222, it once guarded the strategically important passage to the Tempe Valley, where Greek poets placed Apollo and his Muses.

The Platamon Fortress is surrounded by massive walls topped by a high hexagonal tower overlooking the coastline, one of the most important routes through Greece. Recent research shows that an older, ancient city once existed here, which many experts believe could be Heraklion.

Old Monastery of Saint Dionysius

On the slopes of Mount Olympus, about 17 km from Litochoro, is the Old Monastery of Saint Dionysius. It was built in 1542, and Saint Dionysius participated in its founding. After a divine revelation, Saint Dionysius founded and dedicated the monastery to the Holy Trinity, but the monastery later became known by the name of its founder—Saint Dionysius of Olympus. He was also buried in the then chapel of the monastery, and the remains of his grave still exist today.

New Monastery of Saint Dionysius

The New Monastery of Saint Dionysius is located about 3 km from Litochoro, and its story is closely linked to the Old Monastery of the same name. The Old Monastery was looted and burned by the Ottomans during the Greek uprising in 1821, and during World War II, Nazi forces almost completely destroyed it with explosives.
