Traditional Village Parthenonas Neos Marmaras

Most tourists who come to the summer resort of Neos Marmaras or its surroundings never visit the traditional village of Parthenonas because either they haven't heard of it or they don't have transportation to get there. Located on a hill just a few kilometres from Neos Marmaras, this authentic gem can be compared to the slightly larger village of Palaios Panteleimonas in the Olympus region.

Today, Parthenonas has only a few hundred permanent residents because most of the original inhabitants have moved to nearby Neos Marmaras. In this traditional village (protected by the Greek state and the EU for its unique architecture), there is an elementary school, three places where top-quality olive oil is produced, three mills, five or six spots where you can have coffee and drinks, and a good number of villas and apartments for accommodation.

Parthenonas is a perfect place for lovers of romance, architecture, and history

Here, those who love architecture, history, photography, good food, and nature hiking will find joy. This is also the perfect place for romantics, who can enjoy the sunset with a beautiful view of Kelifos Island and visit the famous Paul's Tavern. Paul (1939–2013) was the founder of the tavern and had a lovely tradition of greeting all guests and then performing a traditional Greek dance. He did this every evening until the end of his life.

Where is Parthenonas located?

It is situated on the western coast of the second peninsula of Chalkidiki, Sithonia, at an elevation of 350 meters above sea level and about 4 km from Neos Marmaras. It is surrounded by olive trees and greenery, evoking the atmosphere of ancient times.

Over the past 15-20 years, most of the old houses in Parthenonas have unfortunately deteriorated or been demolished. However, the newly built houses that replaced them were constructed to respect the traditional style and local architecture. Therefore, today's Parthenonas still resembles the village of the 19th and 20th centuries.

You can rent accommodation in Parthenonas

Here, you can enjoy the natural beauty, particularly the viewpoint offering a view of the surrounding olive groves, the Toronean Gulf, the Porto Carras complex, and Kelifos Island.
