Nikiti Resort Sithonia Sithonia

The Summer Resort of Nikiti in Sithonia

Nikiti is one of the oldest towns on the entire Chalkidiki peninsula. It is located in the northwest of the Sithonia peninsula, about 39 km east of Nea Moudania and approximately 95 km southeast of Thessaloniki, situated between the summer resorts of Metamorfosis and Neos Marmaras.

Nikiti consists of two parts, Old and New Nikiti (they are divided by the main road) and has about 3,000 residents. The old part of town is located right next to the main road on a hill, while the new part is opposite and has access to the sea.

A Brief History of Nikiti

During the classical period, the most significant city in the entire region was Galipsos, located somewhat south of present-day Nikiti. By year 1300, most of the land where Nikiti now stands belonged to monasteries such as Agios Oros, Xenophontos, Lavras and Xeropotamou.

The town as we know it today first appeared in history in the 14th century as Neakitou. Over time, the population increased, and by the 15th century, the town became independent. The Turks ravaged the town in 1821 during the Greek War of Independence, and the surviving population rebuilt it from 1822 to 1827.

A small green market is organized in Nikiti every Friday

Every year, thousands of tourists visit Nikiti during the summer season, making it one of the most popular destinations in this part of Greece. In Nikiti, a small green market is organized every Friday morning until 1 PM, where you can find very tasty and healthy food products.

There are several large stores in Nikiti, including Lidl

Nikiti has many tourist facilities such as car rental agencies, pharmacies, ATMs, and a pedestrian zone with many taverns, pizzerias, and cafes. One of the attractions is also the swimming marathon held annually, called “Crossing the Toroni Gulf,” where participants swim 26 km from the Kassandra peninsula to Nikiti.

Nikiti is famous for its excellent honey

Today, the local population is primarily engaged in tourism and agriculture, and the area is also known for honey production. While exploring Nikiti, you can admire the beaches that combine green and blue hues. When the wind gently blows, pine trees sway along the shore, and small waves form on the sea, creating an idyllic atmosphere of peace and relaxation.

Nikiti City Beach, Sithonia

The summer resort of Nikiti is considered one of the most popular in Sithonia, and it also has a beautiful sandy beach. Almost 3 km long, Nikiti Town Beach is accessible from every part of the resort. Naturally, there are more people and less parking space in the central areas, but as you move towards the outskirts of the beach, the crowds decrease, and finding parking becomes less of a problem.
