Orange Beach (Portokali or Kavourotripes) Sithonia

And now, this is the moment you've all been waiting for. It's time to introduce the eastern corner of Sithonia, Orange Beach, also known as Kavourotripes or in Greek – Portokali. This is a sandy beach, with postcard-like turquoise water, but it's only 45 meters long!

Don’t let the length fool you, Orange Beach is the champion in the category of most photographed beaches in all of Sithonia. Its perpetual challenger, Lagomandra, is located on the western coast of the Sithonia peninsula.

Key Features of Orange Beach

  1. One of the most beautiful beaches in Sithonia
  2. Large crowds on the beach (especially in pick of season)
  3. Lack of good parking spots
  4. Turquoise water color
  5. Sand that doesn’t stick to the body
  6. Sunbeds and sun umbrellas can be rent at the beach bar

Unfortunately, technology can't truly capture how fantastic Orange Beach looks, so the best advice is to see it for yourself. Of course, to avoid having unrealistic expectations of this beach, forget the joke from the beginning of this text and go to Orange Beach without prejudices. First impressions matter. Some might be disappointed by the large crowds on the beach or the lack of good parking spots, but don’t let these side issues throw you off balance and try to fully enjoy the natural beauty of this place.

Nature didn't hold back when it equipped Orange Beach. Nature created a small sandy-rocky cove, with turquoise water and sand that doesn’t stick to the body. In this cove, there are several smaller beaches, the longest of which we call Orange Beach, and it is “only” 45 meters long. Being considered the most beautiful beach in Sithonia, crowds are inevitable here. There is one bar on the beach offering sunbeds, but if you don’t arrive early, it’s hard to find a free spot.

If you want to explore the entire cove, you will need to follow a goat path through the bushy areas. After about 100 meters of pushing through the shrubs up and down, you will reach the small Kavourotripes Beach. This beach is essentially the same as Orange Beach, only it’s just 18 meters wide. The only difference is that here you enter a nudist zone, so if you’re not into that, it’s better to stick to Orange Beach.

If you decide to go even further, you will come to a beach reserved for nudists. Besides the beautiful nature, there is also an artwork in the form of a mermaid carved into the rock right next to the water’s edge. The whole stretch of this micro cove is very popular, so it’s almost always crowded.

Parking at Orange Beach

Orange Beach is located near Sarti, on the road leading to Vourvourou. There is a sign, but if you’re not careful enough, you can easily miss this turn, so it might be a better idea to rely on GPS. From the main road, turn onto a small dirt road and drive for about 300 meters.

You park wherever you can. This means among the pines, with caution not to block anyone. There is an option to drive almost down to the beach, but this is more suitable for off-road vehicles and more experienced drivers, as the slope is steep and very tricky. Besides, it’s not really cool to jump straight from the car into the sea; take a little walk first and enjoy the scent of pines and the sea.
